Children's Cause

Mercy`s commitment to children`s welfare is both personal and professional. She grew up in a village in Kirinyaga county in Kenya. Although she had a good childhood, not every one of her friends did, and this went on to shape her and her friends’ lives. This she knew from a very young age has stayed with her and has influenced the founding of the mercy steps program. Because childhood lasts a lifetime.

What We Do

Mercy steps program was founded in 2009 with two initiatives; to support women with breast cancer and the orphans they leave behind. This organization provides continuous support for young school-going children. We stand with children and fund the vulnerable ones to elevate them to be successful, responsible adults and leaders of tomorrow.

We work with these children through their schools and their guardians. We are also taking a comprehensive long-term approach to see that all children benefit despite their backgrounds.

Computers

By providing computers to schools, we plant a seed that will grow into Information Technology (IT) specialists. A great international career in which the children can prosper and work remotely from any part of the world. The children have a chance to be great entrepreneurs who can interact with clients from the entire country and world.

English Books

By providing books to these schools we plant even a more yielding seed. Reading broadens a child`s mind and hence perspective on life. A child`s life will surely change through books; through a simple storybook as well as a career book.

School Tour

A school tour to the countryside (Rural) is a life-changing opportunity for you and the children. From Interaction with persons from different cultural or ethnic backgrounds, these children benefit enormously. It helps them develop diverse skills such as Multicultural and Multi-ethnic awareness, Increased creativity, and Interpersonal advantages among others. The children have a chance to ask open questions to the visitors and have a chance to have clarity on the myths about the outside world.

If you`re looking for a tour of the countryside schools, you ll love it there. This will give you an opportunity to develop a unique insight into the diverse challenges facing Kenya`s Rural Schools. School visitors get the opportunity to see the cultural practices of local the community up close.

Stationary

We do not charge for school tours. We ask visitors to donate some stationary through Mercy Steps Program instead, to enable us to buy and the items and get them ready for the visit.

Our Children’s Program offers support to school children in rural areas with basics like stationery, School bags (Rucksacks), Exercise books (paper), Computers, etc.

School Fees

The school fees program was a family program until 2014 when it was introduced to Mercy Steps Program. It`s the program we hold dearest to our hearts. It has enabled children who otherwise would not have had a chance to go attend basic, secondary, and even College/University education. School Uniform

School uniforms are the One best decisions for Kenya School System They allow the disadvantaged children to mingle with the pre-validated ones and start at. the same starting point. Having them reduces bullying, and removes peer pressure from the kids. Parents celebrate the school uniform because they do not have to deal with unaffordable fashion and styles. Despite the fact that all children must have school uniforms, disadvantaged children will most of the time, not be able to afford them. School uniform includes shorts, shirts, pullovers, shoes, and school bags.

Sanitary Pads

Teenage girls face great stigma in both girls-only schools and mixed (boys & girls) schools when they have their periods. It`s the nightmare part of school life when you can not afford sanitary towels, and many girls do skip school during their menstruation periods to avoid humiliation. Sanitary towels are not cheap and that’s why we give support.
